The Globalization of business, finance, trade, travel, fashion, construction, engineering, art, communication and science has almost been completed. Yet, every year, thousands of tons of perfectly healthy food, feed and fiber crops are destroyed due to discrepancies in the authorizations of plant protection products. It happens when growers in an export country have used a product on a crop for which it is not authorized in the importing country. In most cases, this is not because the product is dangerous but because nobody has asked for its approval. Such barriers to the distribution of food, feed and fiber are non-tariff trade-barriers that can not be resolved in a court of law but only through global cooperation in the authorization of plant protection products among and between farmers, processors, traders, the pesticide industry and government so that differences will disappear. This can be accomplished by using the tools and guidelines that have been developed under the leadership of the OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development).
